Are you a winter backcountry enthusiast? Do you earn your turns by climbing the hills to ski or board down? Is a snowshoe to a remote location something that interests you? Have you considered visiting a hut in the wintertime? If you answered yes to any of these questions, you should ask yourself, what do I know about avalanches? What do I know about transceivers? Probably more importantly what do I know about my partners ability to use a transceiver? Well, grab your avalanche kit and your partner(s) and come out and enjoy a day of snow-play at the start of the season. This year we will start out with a classroom session at PEEC in the evening on Wednesday the sixth of December. The classroom session will be followed by a field session (snow permitting) the following weekend on Saturday the 9th. In the field we will exercise our transceiver skills and evaluate the early season snow pack (fingers crossed). The field session will be conducted near the Brazos Overlook TH off Hwy 64 between TP and TA. We will leave Los Alamos Saturday morning at 08:00 and depart the field ~16:00 with an expected return to Los Alamo nlt 18:30. This activity will be limited to 12 participants with 2 leaders (hopefully). Contact the trip leader to reserve a spot.
