For the second in our series of hikes, let's up the anty a bit and go for some big elevation gain.
We'll head to Albuquerque and hike the La Luz Trail. We've been wanting to do this for a long time and every time we plan a trip it is closed. Fingers crossed that we'll get to see the wonderful views of Albuquerque along the way and at the top.
This is a rigorous hike, 7.5 miles each way, that hiking books estimate at 9-12 hours.
Kate and I will be in ABQ on Friday, 6/9, and will spend the night there in a hotel. We want to get an early start, so we'll be changing the start time to 6:30am at the trailhead. You'll need to get yourself to the trailhead. I want to start hiking no later than 6:45am, so please arrive by 6:30am to sign the trip waiver. I've provided the link to the waiver so that you have plenty of time to read it before the trip.
There is an option to hiking down. This will be something that each of us can decide based on weather and how we are feeling when we reach the top.
That option is to ride the Sandia Peak Tram back down. This involves an additional mile to get to the top of the tram and a two mile hike from the bottom of the tram back to the trailhead.
Here are the rates and hours of operation for the tram
