LAST MINUTE TRIP:   Had some requests to put this info on website, soo... We are going backpacking on a route less traveled! A group of us did this Wheeler Peak overnight backpack as a pre-trip for the 35+ mile Skyline & NM Peaks Backpack last year. It's a good fitness and skills check, provides a chance to test gear, and, of course, bagging New Mexico’s highest peak at 13,161 feet is an annual must-do for any Mountaineer. But wait! There's more! The back side approach to Wheeler has a extraordinary amount of floral and fauna, lakes and waterfalls. Oh my!

Transport, logistics and other group information (e.g. sharing or borrowing gear if needed) are ready, its all pretty straightforwardfor if you are local. Other items/route changes TBD  based on weather, fire/closures, size of group, etc. Just call.

NOTE:   "Last Minute" pretty much means you are the type who still hasn’t yet put away your gear from last weekend. Experience, sufficiency and fitness level are non-negotiable. Please check elevation gains and mileage for trails #90 to Bull of the Woods and #91 Lost Lake Trail.

Overview:

7/22 Friday:   Leader and friends leaving early to enjoy some Taos Fiesta Fun! Bluegrass at Mesa Brewery! Car camp in canyon. All welcome. Carpool from Buffalo Thunder at 6:00pm.

7/23 Saturday:   8:30AM. Meet at Twinning TH. Hike to Horseshoe Lake 'Camp' via Bull-of-the-Woods #90, over to Red River and up Lost Lake Trail #91.

7/24 Sunday:   Wheeler Peak. Descent route per group / weather / timing. Kachina Traverse is preferred route. Then onto annual Guadalajara Grill Gluttony Fest.
