As a warm-up to our May Canyon trip, I will be leading a slickrock exploration in the Ghost Ranch area. The outing is largely aimed for participants in an upcoming trip, but I would also welcome a few other folks who might be thinking about joining in a Utah outing in the future. Our May trip unfortunately filled privately before it could be offered to the Club, but I am planning an October 6-14 outing and hope to advertise it in the next several weeks.

The objective of the hike, besides enjoying the lovely scenery and challenging terrain at Ghost Ranch, is to check out our hiking gear, remember how to manage water in warm-weather hiking, practice our low-angle rope technique, and practice exploration teamwork.

Our route is a  a loop at Ghost Ranch that involves going up to Kitchen Mesa, then working our way south (towards the highway) along the slickrock, eventually descending from the mesas with a bit of scrambling to a car parked near the highway. I'll get more details before we go. This will get us a little bit of slickrock experience before setting out to the slickrock wilderness of Utah.

We will meet in Los Alamos at 9 AM and drive to the trailhead, returning in town in time for an evening activities that you might have. To join in, please contact Bill at the e-mail address above.
