Approach by driving west from Los Alamos using NM 501 to NM 4 to FR 289 to FR 287.
Hike 2-3 miles to a narrowing of the ridge, following a downhill section. Obsidian flakes litter the path. Large rocks are not found on the path, but can be found by foraging off-path. We met a young man who is mining the area for his knapping projects, returning every few weeks, so stocks of large rocks will dwindle.
Great views of Frijoles Canyon to the north and Alamo Canyon to the south. Mature trees give way to burned areas as you proceed eastward. The burned area is healing, but locust trees are encountered off-path.
