Several of us are planning a Colorado Fourteener trip this August, and we would like to invite other Club members to join us. We are planning to drive up to Vicksburg (near Buena Vista) on Friday morning, August 18, and backpack up the Missouri Gulch trail to timberline that afternoon. From there, we can easily access three Fourteeners (Belford, Oxford, and Missouri) and two high Thirteeners (Iowa and Emerald). So this is a great opportunity for Club members to bag Fourteeners or Centennial peaks! It would also be fun just to spend time above timberline and enjoy the wildflowers, wildlife, and spectacular scenery. People are welcome to stay for 1, 2, or 3 nights, and climb as many peaks (or as few peaks) as they like.
This trip is intermediate in difficulty, and requires prior hiking and backpacking experience because of the elevation gain and altitude. Camping gear, warm cloths, rain gear, sunscreen, and insect repellant will be needed. Some people may wish it share tents, stoves, or meal preparation.
Members of the Mountaineers are welcome to join us. For more information on the trip, or to sign up, please email Norbert at norbert.ensslin@gmal.com.
