Traversing the Wind River Range

Date:
Tue, 2023-07-25

The July 25 Mountaineers meeting will be in-person, with a hybrid adjunct. Tanja Pietraß will speak about “Traversing the Wind River Range.”

With her friend David, Tanja cross the Wind Rivers on foot in August of 2022, starting at the Green Lakes and exiting at Big Sandy, covering about 86 miles. Despite the long drive (14 hours), climbing a wrong pass, a moose in camp, a run-in with a “bear”,  and daily rain showers, the Wind Rivers climbed to the top of her favorite mountain ranges.

Tanja grew up in Bavaria and spent spring and fall vacations hiking in the alps with her parents, skiing in the winters. Her love for the outdoors has inspired her many adventures all over the world, including bike touring, climbing, high altitude mountaineering, whitewater canoeing, caving, cave diving, skiing, snowboarding, and her current favorite, backpacking.

We welcome all to this Mountaineers’ meeting, on the regular fourth Tuesday of the month. The social hour, with cookies, begins at 6:45 PM and the program at 7:00 PM. The presentation will be in-person at Los Alamos Nature Center; the slides will be live-streamed on Zoom. Registration is required to Zoom and recommended for in-person – we would love to see your smiling face. Registration is at https://peecnature.org/events/details/?id=48903.
