The Los Alamos Mountaineers were founded in 1952 by a small group of mountain climbers and friends who had a love of the outdoors.  Since that time, via monthly meetings, speaker programs, climbing schools, and roughly 1000 scheduled trips, the Mountaineers have served as a focal point for people with a love of outdoor adventure.

Norbert Ensslin joined the Mountaineers in 1973, and the club has played an important part of his life.  In 2008, he gave a program on the history of the Mountaineers, based on interviews with some of the club's original members, early photographs, and stories of past adventures.   The program presented highlights from the club's many climbing, hiking, camping and skiing trips in New Mexico and other more distant areas.

In the last 15 years, club activities have expanded to include new outdoor sports and trips to other beautiful, previously-unvisited areas.   Norbert will present an updated version of the Mountaineers' history, highlighting adventures from throughout the club's 71 years.

We welcome all to this Mountaineers’ meeting, on the regular fourth Tuesday of the month. The social hour, with cookies, begins at 6:45 PM and the program at 7:00 PM. The presentation will be in-person at Los Alamos Nature Center; the slides will be live-streamed on Zoom. Registration is required to Zoom and recommended for in-person – we would love to see your smiling face. The registration link is at https://peecnature.org/events/details/?id=46833.
