La Manga Pass X-C Ski Tour

There is lots of new snow at Cumbres/La Manga Passes - let's go for a X-C tour on Saturday January 8!

This is about a 9 mile tour, with about 1000 ft total elevation change.  We will start at the Spruce Hole parking lot near La Manga Pass (about 5 miles north of Cumbres Pass on Highway 17).  We will ski the ~3 miles and pass Spruce Hole yurt.  We will turn up onto Pinorealosa Mountain.  We will ski south for about one mile and then ski off the ridge to the east for about one mile (could be some nice turns here).  Then turn back to the north to Spruce Hole and then past the yurt and return to the parking lot.  I will anticipate this tour will take 6 hours.

Bring backcountry X-C skis, poles, skins, gaiters, sitting pad,  layers of clothing, sunscreen, lunch, and water.  Avalanche gear is not required, but it always good to bring a shovel if you have one.  

As the days are short - we will leave Los Alamos at 7 am.  Participants must be vaccinated.  We will arrange carpools as folks are comfortable - bring face masks.  Meeting location will be emailed to participants.
