Recently back from a great trip down the Selway River in July 2021, we signed up for our next adventure. We’d like to return to experience the 5-night trip down the Middle Fork in a cooler and quieter season. 2022 is substantially booked, so the September 2, 2023 departure by Hughes River Expeditions offers adventure and beauty, and a musical serenade every night to boot. Details of the trip can be found at https://www.hughesriver.com/rivers/middle-fork-of-the-salmon/; to summarize, “The Middle Fork is famous as America’s best river rafting trip. … We float through dense forests, along sage and mountain mahogany covered hillsides, and finally between the sheer granite cliffs of Impassable Canyon.” Given the low water expected in September, we will be flown to the river to start the trip. This is a fully catered trip with great food. The fishing should be spectacular. There will be one fishing raft with two slots; I have taken one of them. The trip will cost about $2,750 per person plus tip, travel, and lodging in Stanley, Idaho, before and after the river. The fishing raft will take the time to have a solid try at the good holes, rather than a single cast as the raft carries you away; slots on that raft cost an extra $900. We’ve reserved the whole trip, which allows 18 participants. To reserve a slot, please contact Bill Priedhorsky, who will let participants know how to pay their $750 deposit to Hughes River.
