The May Mountaineers meeting will feature a talk by Ben Bergen entitled “Colorado Fourteeners”, on Tuesday evening, June 22.
Colorado's 58 peaks above 14,000 feet offer exhilarating, challenging terrain that is enjoyed by many, and becomes a real passion for some. A well-planned trip is a chance to experience some of the most beautiful scenery on the planet Earth, and an opportunity to find your mental and physical limits. However, with the altitude also come the extremes of exposure, and the elements. Many times poor judgement, poor planning, and bad luck (or a combination of all three) result in serious injury, and sometimes death. That said, in all but the slimmest minority of cases, these dangers can be avoided with the proper preparation and understanding. This presentation will cover the basic information that you need to get started on a safe journey through the Colorado back country, and to the top of your first 14er!
Mountaineers’ meetings are held on the fourth Tuesday of every month. When held in person, they take place in the planetarium of the Pajarito Environmental Education Center (PEEC), 2600 Canyon Rd, Los Alamos, NM 87544. Recent meetings have been held electronically starting at 7:00 PM. Registration details for this meeting can be found at https://peecnature.org/events/details/?id=37053.
