CANCELLED FOR LACK OF INTEREST:
San Pedro Parks is high (~9,500) meadow country at the northwestern edge of the Jemez, with relatively easy hiking, and not a great deal of altitude change once in the parks. I propose to lead a 2-night trip to the heart of this country, making camp along the Rio de las Vacas and exploring out from there. The hike to camp, along the Palomas Trail, should be about 4 miles and 1500 feet of total altitude gain. From there, we can explore along the Anastacio Trail and the Vacas Trail (part of the Continental Divide Trail) for day trips even deeper into the Parks. The image below is from continentaldividetrail.org. There are many small streams that provide water supply and fishing opportunities.
Let's head out for a 3-day, 2 night trip. We will leave Los Alamos at 8 AM on Friday, October 2, and hike out for the drive back to Los Alamos on October 4. This will be a relatively small party, consistent with COVID safety. Social distancing will be required and individuals/families will be responsible for their own meals. Well-behaved dogs will be considered for participation.
