NOTICE 4/12/19:
This trip is currently full. I'll put your name on a waitlist if you wish.
Prerequisite: Competent rapeller.
Where: Pajarito Gorge. Trailhead is at the end of Kimberley Lane in White Rock. Parking is limited, so carpool if you can.
When: 4/27/19, 9am - early afternoon, depending on speed we can move the group through the canyon.
What You'll Need: Helmet, harness, rappel device, safety tether, gloves, spare locking carabiner, sturdy shoes, clothing appropriate for weather, scrambling, and rappeling. Snacks and drinks. This canyon is bolted and we'll be learning to use those types of anchors, but you may bring 9/16" or 1" tubular webbing (natural colors preferred: black, tan, rust, forest green; and 8mm (5/16") steel rapid links. You never know.
This will be the first in what is expected to be a series of local Canyoneering outings. The primary purpose is to prepare people for the Zion Canyoneering trip in September 2019, but these will also serve to introduce people to Canyoneering here in New Mexico. As mentioned, this canyon is bolted and the bolts have chains on them. It will be a chance to play with a guided rappel. We could even use the side-canyon rappel for a ~300’ rappel opportunity.
See the description, here. We'll plan to use Exit Path 1.
Please send me an email if you want to go so that I have a good idea of who is going and how many we'll be.
We will need some experienced Canyoneers. Ideally, I'd like to put an experienced person with each 4 who are new or preparing to be Canyon Leaders.
