While the skiing in New Mexico has been remarkably good this season, Wolf Creek remains the snow monster of the southern Rockies, with a 75-plus inch base. I'm interested in taking advantage of the February long weekend to organize a group to rent a house in Pagosa and ski Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. We could drive to Purgatory one of those days if the interest is there. Lift tickets at Wolf Creek are reasonably priced by mainline Colorado standards ($72 for adults, $43 for age 65+). To socialize in the evenings, we will either go out to dinner or cook dinners in, and certainly will not want to miss the hot springs. I hope that we will have participants interested in cross-country or snowshoeing too. There are several places to do so, including the Alberta Lake area near the ski area, and, if the snow continues as good as it is, lower elevations in the upper San Juan Valley, up Piedra Creek, etc. I would propose to leave Los Alamos at 3-4 PM on Thursday afternoon Feb. 14, and drive back home on Monday the 18th. Let me know if you are interested; I will ask for an appropriate deposit for the lodging.
