For the first long hike of spring, I'm planning to hike over to Guaje Canyon via Cabra Loop West and then go up to Guaje Reservoir. The return trip will go up the last part of the Mitchell Trail to Guaje Ridge Trail then down Upper Guaje Road Trail and finally back to the trailhead at Guaje Pines. It's about 11.5 mi and the trails vary from easy to difficult, elevation gain is about 1500 feet (2 times!). Guaje Canyon still has remnants of Los Alamos' water supply pipe from the 1940s. "Caveat Ambulotor" (Hiker Beware): I hiked this loop four years ago and parts of it were definitely a scramble over logs and washout after the 2013 flooding. If it gets too bad, we'll just turn around.

Meet at 9 a.m. at the Rendija Trailhead (just before you get to Guaje Pines Cemetery).
