Monday January 15th is a holiday: let's hike in Bandelier National Monument to the Stone Lions. We will do this hike as a one-way hike - starting at Ponderosa Campground and finishing at the Visitor's Center. It is 13 miles and 2500' - 3000' in elevation gain - so, it is a strenuous, all-day hike.
We will meet at Sullivan Field at 7 am to carpool. We will need at least 2 cars, so please come prepared to drive. We will drive to the Bandelier Visitor's Center, drop a car, and then drive to Ponderosa Campground to start hiking. If you have Nat'l Park pass, please bring it.
Bring lunch and at least 2 quarts of water. Wear layered clothing, appropriate for the weather (it will be cold in the am, and warm in the afternoon), sunhat, sunscreen, broken in hiking shoes or boots. You may enjoy having hiking poles.
If you'd like to come, please send me an email at jdewart@q.com
Hope you can come.
(it is not a technical rock climb, but the hiking trail is rough in places, so, this is an intermediate hike, rather than a beginner hike)
