I'd like to explore a place I've never been - the badlands country west of Cuba, NM, which is within the relatively new San Juan Basin Badlands Recreation Area. What I've seen - an article in New Mexico magazine, see https://www.newmexico.org/nmmagazine/articles/post/badlands-hiking-83869/) sounds like a great place for an explore, with hoodos, bare rock, and other odd formations. We will be cross-country hiking in rough and trailless terrain.
This area is too far away for a day trip, so I have reserved a house at a bed and breakfast near Cuba with three bedrooms plus some living room space also suitable for sleeping. If we fill the place, the lodging should cost about $50 per night per person, plus $10 for a full breakfast each morning. We will head out on the morning of Friday Oct. 20, explore some that afternoon, and return to Los Alamos on the 22nd.
To hold a space I would appreciate a deposit of $100 per person. I'll decide whether the trip is a go based on the responses I receive by Tuesday Sept. 5 (I have a temporary hold on the lodging and need to make a deposit or not.
