Monthly Slide Shows: Our club's
Program Committee is quite active in bringing a variety of
presentations to Los
Alamos. At our monthly meetings you will see inspiring photos and hear
the stories behind them. In addition to featuring personal adventures from
local club members, we occasionally feature professional climbers and other
speakers on a variety of outdoor and mountain activities. The Mountaineers
have toured several of the world's highest peaks, not only from the perspective
of professional mountain guides, but also from several club members. We've heard
topics ranging from adventure race competitors (e.g. the Eco-Challenge) to
photographic exhibits on the Valle Grande National Preserve and Artic National
Wildlife Refuge. We've also seen wonderful talks on canyoneering, river rafting,
trekking, ice climbing, peak bagging, and more. See for yourself and join
us at
Fuller
Lodge!
Club Trips: Join your fellow club
members on any of the numerous hiking, backpacking, scrambling, rock-climbing,
ice-climbing, peak-bagging, skiing, and biking trips offered throughout the
year.
Top Roping: Although the
club seldom schedules top roping sessions, our member and webmaster Jan
Studebaker has been scheduling community top
roping for 20 years, and we include his schedule on our
TOP ROPING
page. We also link to Mark Mathis's schedule for
weekend
climbing. Jan's top-roping
sessions are scheduled every Tuesday and Thursday evening from March thru October. This is a great way
to stay in shape and meet potential climbing partners.
Climbing
School: Learn what
technical rock climbing is all about. We will teach you the fundamentals of
technical climbing and climbing technique with a strong emphasis on safety.
(Registration fee required.) Nonmembers are not eligible for this course!
Trip Leader Awards:
The club is grateful to
those who lead our outdoor adventures. As a token of appreciation, our
awards will be a series of caps and hats with the Club logo. To encourage
first-time trip leaders, we will award a first hat to anyone who leads a Club
trip. In more detail, we will recognize trip leaders as described
here.
Web Pages: Hey, we have a great web
site! Get club announcements, advertisements for upcoming club trips, trip
reports, and links to tons of pictures, gear reviews, climbing beta, etc. on the
club web pages.
Borrow Equipment: We
have a limited amount of mountaineering equipment for loan (e.g., avalanche
transceivers). Contact Zack Baker, our Equipment Manager, at (505)
412-5961 or zackbaker@gmail.com.
Become an Author:
Write illustrated
trip reports for inclusion in our
TRIP ARCHIVE. See the
TRIP ARCHIVE
page for details. It's easy!
And Much, Much More … Of course,
some of these items (for example, the summer top-roping sessions) don't require
club membership. By supporting the Los Alamos Mountaineers with your dues
payment, however, you are ensuring that these benefits remain available to you,
your family, your friends, and the local climbing community.
