Bill is the
Mountaineers' resident leader for the canyon country of
northeast Arizona and southwest Utah, having explored it over
80
expeditions, starting in 1979. A quarter century ago, these were
hard core backpacks, sleeping by the side of the road during the
long trips there and back. But now it seems much more pleasant
to stay in fine lodgings before and after the wilderness, and to
hire horses or llamas to carry our loads. This allows a more
gourmet selection of food and wine in base camp. The wild canyon
country is a never-ending adventure, with surprises around every
corner. Bill's favorite destinations are the deep canyons and
expansive slickrock of the Grand Staircase-Escalante National
Monument, basing his trips out of the friendly village of
Boulder, Utah. For more information see the LAM Program
announcement for Bill's January 2008 club presentation by

Bill
has been given honorary "Lifetime Member" status with the club,
and he is a recipient of the the clubs "Distinguished Service
Award" in recognition of "Outstanding Long-term Dedication,
Service, and Leadership".
