Bicycle Adventures Around the World

Date:
Tue, 2023-08-22

The August 22 Mountaineers meeting will be in-person, with a hybrid adjunct. Deniece Korzekwa will speak about her “Bicycle Adventures Around the World.”

Deniece writes: “Riding a bicycle is a great way to see the world.  You are able to go places that vehicles cannot go and move faster than on foot.  You get to see sites, explore towns and villages, and meet people along the way.  During the past 18 years we have done 12 bicycle trips on 6 continents.  The trips have been a variety of fully supported with a small group, self-guided with luggage support, and completely on our own.  In this talk we will tell you about the challenges and achievements of our trips and hopefully express to you why we love cycling vacations.”

Deniece has lived in Los Alamos for 40 years.  She worked at LANL for 33 years as a metallurgical engineer with a focus on casting simulations and experiments for actinide metals.  She retired from LANL in 2019 and continues to consult as a guest scientist.   Besides bicycling Deniece plays the tuba and string bass in several music groups, teaches “Spin” classes at the YMCA and enjoys time with her grandchildren.

We welcome all to this Mountaineers’ meeting, on the regular fourth Tuesday of the month. The social hour, with cookies, begins at 6:45 PM and the program at 7:00 PM. The presentation will be in-person at Los Alamos Nature Center; the slides will be live-streamed on Zoom. Registration is required to Zoom and recommended for in-person – we would love to see your smiling face. Registration is at https://peecnature.org/events/details/?id=48943.
