Join PEEC/LAM for a moonlit hike at Tsankawi ruins in Bandelier National Monument on Tuesday evening, May 29th. Bandelier is normally closed after sunset, so this is a special opportunity only for this PEEC outing. The group will meet at the Los Alamos Nature Center at 6 p.m. for a social potluck picnic. PEEC will provide water, cups, plates, and utensils — you bring the food! Please note: Bandelier requires night hikers to carry a red light! Most newer headlamps have this option. PEEC will have a few to lend.

After dinner, we'll carpool to Tsankawi at 7 p.m. and start hiking by 7:30 p.m. We will hike to the east end of the loop in time for a beautiful full moon-rise over the Sangre de Christo Mountains. Then we'll return to the trailhead along the same route, as it is the safest way to travel after dark. We plan to return to LANC by 9:30 p.m.

Due to the late return time, this will be a moderately difficult hike over rough terrain. PEEC representatives (and LAM volunteers) will be stationed at potentially hazardous trail locations. There is one ladder on the hike that can be avoided and one short section that involves some scrambling.

Admission is free, but registration is required. Register here:http://peecnature.org/events/details/?id=23388
