Mount Whitney East Face |
Beta Images Slide Show
One of the most important mountains in the U.S., by an interesting and historic route. This is a moderate climb by technical standards, but its length, altitude, and route finding problems demand a degree of respect. There are other excellent routes on the face and adjoining East Ridge if you are looking for the best or most challenging climbing - the East Face is included in this collection more for its history than as a statement that it is the best route up the steep side of the mountain. Access to the basin is tightly regulated - contact the Forest Service in Lone Pine for information. Descent is typically by the Mountaineer's route. The East Face route is very popular. |
