Matthes Crest Traverse |
Beta Images Slide Show
Named for geologist and surveyor Francois Matthes, this crest provides one of the finest moderate ridge runs on the continent. Interesting and beautiful rock in an exquisite area - the Cathedral Peaks region just South of Tuolomne Meadows in the high country of Yosemite National Park. As for the other pure ridge climbs in this collection, all members of the party must be comfortable with high exposure and the level of difficulty - it would be difficult and time-consuming, if not impossible, to arrange safe belays for a beginning climber on this route. Recommended for those who are comfortable on moderately technical rock without fixed belays. A very similar climb to Wolf's Head in Wyoming, but a bit easier technically. This one will remind you of all the reasons you climb. |
