Cumbres Pass Day Ski Tour

			February 13, 2011

			Author/Organizer: Jean Dewart

			Trip Participants: Judy
Buckingham, Jean Dewart, Chris Horley, Lorrie Bonds Lopez, John
Lopez, Jeri Sullivan, Bob Williams, and Luna & Espoti (the dogs).
			A group of nine
did an 8 mile ski tour at Cumbres Pass on Sunday February 13th.
Bob Williams developed the GPS route map from the

Southwest Nordic web site.  We spotted a car at the Truillo
Meadows/Flat Mountain Yurt trailhead on Highway 17 and skied from
the Neff Mountain trailhead.  We skied past the Neff Mountain
Yurt and then took the jeep road cut off to the Flat Mountain trail,
including a side ski up to the dead car.

			Judy and Jeri at the
			dead car.
			We had a
beautiful sunny day.  Chris Horley went for a longer tour, and
skied from the Neff Mountain trailhead, to the Trujillo Meadows and
Flat Mountain Yurts, and met us back at the end (sixteen miles).
Chris notes that the traditional diamond shaped trail markings near
the Flat Mountain Yurt are very difficult to find.....and so, he
added a bit of extra credit (2 miles!) following snowmobile tracks.
A GPS is recommended for this tour, as the snowmobile tracks can be
confusing (we were passed by 2 sets of snowmobiles - very polite to
us).  It was a wonderful tour and we'll do it again next year.
