Cerro Grande Shoe Snow Hike
Joint LA Mountaineers & PEEC Trip

January 9, 2011

Author/Organizer: Michael Altherr

Trip Participants: Jonathan Niehof, Mari Jorgenson, Annette Weyvand, Patrick Jennings, Rick Kelley, Mario Schillaci, Mary Thompson and Jan Studebaker.

Attractions: Beautiful day, great views and good company.

Distance: Approximately 3 mile round trip.

Elevation Gain: Approximately 1,250 feet.

Duration: About 3.5 h. Departed TH at 10:00 AM. Returned to TH at ~1:30 PM.

Weather: Clear. Temperature about 20 oF at start and near freezing at finish. The mountain gods favored us and held the wind in check until we began our descent

Comments: We enjoyed a nice leisurely lunch (~ 30 min.) on the summit. Snow coverage was thin and the decreased noticeably during the day. We need more snow.

Making the final push to the summit with the Valles Caldera and Redondo Peak as a backdrop.
