 Introduction to whitewater kayaking.

The leaders of Exploer Post 20 have invited 10 LA Mountaineers to try out kayaking, at the Tuesday February 23rd pool session at the Walkup Center pool in Los Alamos.  They will provide boats, paddles, and spray skirts.  No previous experience required.  We arrive at the pool at 6:30 pm and the pool session runs from 7-8 pm.    We will give more specific instructions about when/where to arrive, when we know how many people sign up.

The cost per person is $5 (for use of the pool) - bring cash.  We arrive at the pool and assist the Post in washing out the kayaks prior to the session.  Then, we will have 1 hour of instruction in the pool, covering basic paddling strokes and how to exit from a kayak when flipped (called a wet exit).  If some of you have more skills, an introduction to performing an eskimo roll can be done.  Bring your swimming suit, towel, and indoor flip flops/sandals.  Nose plugs are nice if you have them.

At the end of the session, we will assist the Post in loading up the kayaks to the cars/trailers outside.

If you are a tall/big person (say over 6' tall) - we might need to do some boat identification ahead of time - to make sure we have a boat that fits you.  Let me know before February 12th.
