Before the ski season gets away from us completely, I'd like one more skiing weekend at Wolf Creek.  I propose to head up on Friday morning March 23 and ski part of Friday, then most of Saturday and Sunday, driving back Sunday afternoon to Los Alamos. Sunday the 25th will be a discounted skiing day at Wolf Creek. We would find lodging in Pagosa, probably a house to share, for Friday and Saturday nights. Hot springs in the evening would be a definite option. Please let me know if you would like to go! Regards, Bill

There is snow at Cumbres Pass!  Let's go for a day ski on Sunday Feb 25th.  We will either ski Dixie Creek or go over to Spruce Hole/Pinerealosa Peak, depending upon the group's interest.    

Let's meet at Sullivan Field at 7 am to carpool.  It is going to be a fairly cold day (high temp ~ 24 oF), so bring layers.  Lunch, water, goggles, 2 pairs of gloves, skins if you have them (not required).

Join us for a hike through the red rock wonderland of Arroyo del Cobre near Abiquiqu. We'll hike through a slot canyon to a high point and then visit some amazing geologic formations, part on-trail and part bush-whacking. Approximately 5 miles with a close fit in the slot canyon and about 800 ft elevation change. Car pool from the White Rock Y, leaving at 8 a.m.

This is a joint PEEC/LAM hike.

Let's do a full moon hike, on Tuesday, January 30th.  

Meet at the Pajarito Environmental Education Center at 5 pm.  We will carpool to the east end of the horse stables on North Mesa (Kwage Mesa Trail).  We will hike out/back (~ 2 hours), then return to the Nature Center for a potluck dinner.  I will provide tomato soup and cornbread.  Bring something to share if you can.

Bring a headlamp or flashlight.

Skiing might be mediocre (at best) elsewhere in the state, but Sipapu has good snow coverage. They bought and paid for it, making snow in large amounts so that they now have 14 runs open. I've skiied there, and so have friends, and we found the conditions surprisingly good. Sipapu ranges from free (with a Pajarito pass) to economical (for anyone). I'd like to gather whoever is interested for a day of skiing at Sipapu this Saturday, carpooling from Los Alamos at 8:00 AM, and returning when our day of skiing is done. Monday January 15th is a holiday:  let's hike in Bandelier National Monument to the Stone Lions.  We will do this hike as a one-way hike - starting at Ponderosa Campground and finishing at the Visitor's Center.  It is 13 miles and 2500' - 3000' in elevation gain - so, it is a strenuous, all-day hike.  

We will meet at Sullivan Field at 7 am to carpool.  We will need at least 2 cars, so please come prepared to drive.  We will drive to the Bandelier Visitor's Center, drop a car, and then drive to Ponderosa Campground to start hiking.  If you have Nat'l Park pass, please bring it.

Although the snow is very sparse around Los Alamos, hope springs eternal, and I trust that southern Colorado will have reasonable snow cover by mid-January. I propose to head north to take advantage of that snow. Even now, there is something there (19” base at Monarch Ski Area) vs. what you can see in the hills around Los Alamos.  As we have done in past years, we will head for Salida to establish a base in a comfortable house or cabin, and spend our days in winter sports in the Monarch Pass area.

Let's hike the Ancho Canyon to Blue Dot trail along the Rio Grande River trail - it is a beautiful local winter-time hike.  

It is a 9.5 mile hike, with 1300' descent near the beginning of the hike and 1000' ascent at the end of the hike.  We'll stop to see Ancho Rapid, and then hike the River trail north, past the Red Dot Trail to the Blue Dot trail.

Let's meet at Sullivan Field at 8 am to carpool.  Bring a Park Pass if you have one.  Bring lunch, and hiking gear appropriate for mid November.
