We willl spend the week of September 13 climbing objectives in the Eastern Sierra. The nucleating event will be an incursion into the Whitney Zone from the trailhead at the North Fork of Lone Pine Creek. We have 12 slots for climbers camping at Iceberg Lake, a cirque near the base of Mt. Whitney @ 12,600 feet. One party of six will depart on the 13th in a team led by Brett Kettering and another party of six will depart on the 14th in a team led by Michael Altherr. The permits allow all participants to stay in the Whitney Zone through Friday the 18th. Beynond Iceberg Lake, mountaineering and rock climbing routes climb Mt. Whintey (the tallest mountain in the continental U.S.) via the East Face, East Buttress or the Mountaineers Route. Other climbs in the area include Mt. Russell's Fish Hook Arete and East Ridge. This trip involves a stout approach carrying standard backpacking and climbing gear. In addition, the trip is intended for those interested in climbing technical routes on Mt. Whitney.

Interested participants should have technical climbing experience in alpine environments. Please express you interest in participating by contacting the trip leader by email. A $20 committee fee will be required upon your acceptance as a participant.
