Prerequisite: Competent rapeller.

Where: The southeast corner of the Taos Walmart parking lot, 926 Paseo Del Pueblo Sur, Taos, NM 87571, USA. Parking at the trailhead is limited and there is a fee per car, so carpool if you can. We'll further load cars at the Walmart.

When: 5/11/19, 10am (at Taos Walmart) - early afternoon, depending on speed we can move the group through the canyon.

What You'll Need: Helmet, harness, rappel device, safety tether, gloves, spare locking carabiner, sturdy shoes, clothing appropriate for weather, scrambling, and rappeling. Snacks and drinks. This canyon has all natural anchors, and we'll be learning to build and use those types of anchors. Please bring at least 30' of 9/16" or 1" tubular webbing (natural colors preferred: black, tan, rust, forest green; and at least two 8mm (5/16") steel rapid links.

We are picking this time of year in the hopes that there will be some waterflow, so be prepared to get wet, especially your feet, probably up to your knees or even waist.

This will be the second in what is expected to be a series of local Canyoneering outings. The primary purpose is to prepare people for the Zion Canyoneering trip in September 2019, but these will also serve to introduce people to Canyoneering here in New Mexico.

See a description and waypoints, here.

Here is a reference to Doug Scott's waterfall site for this canyon.

Please send me an email if you want to go so that I have a good idea of who is going and how many we'll be.

We will need some experienced Canyoneers. Ideally, I'd like to put an experienced person with each 4 who are new or preparing to be Canyon Leaders.
