I would like to announce the eighth edition of our very successful trips to Moab. As I write this, the 2015 trip has recently concluded, and was a great success. The 2014 trip report can be found at http://lamountaineers.org/node/479#comment-57.

As before, we will establish a base in a large, comfortable house in Moab, and from there mountain bike, hike, and scramble in Arches and Canyonlands National Parks and the wild country immediately around Moab like Behind the Rocks. Some of our most rugged adventures takes us no more than two miles from home, yet lies deep in the wilderness. Though 2015 was our seventh trip, we kept discovering new places to adventure. For example, I'm interested in returning to Onion Creek and the Mill Creek/North Mill Creek wilderness triangle.

There will be hiking and biking options each day, with activity levels ranging from easy to hard and technicality from beginner to advanced. On most days there will be an easy, non-technical option, as well as the larger adventures. Every outing will be formally signed out with a trip leader and Mountaineers trip waiver for all participants.

The Veteran's Day holiday falls on Friday, but we might as well take the whole week, so I've booked the Moab Retreat House from Saturday November 5 through Sunday November 13, 2016. First priority will be folks who want to stay the whole week, but I will also try to fit folks in who want to stay Saturday through Wednesday or Wednesday through Sunday. We will try not to fill the house quite as full as in 2015.

After the daytime adventuring, we will socialize in the evening with dinners together, either potluck or hitting the town. We will carpool to Moab to minimize driving expenses and not overstrain the parking.

The lodging is called the Moab Retreat House, and details can be found at www.moabretreat.com. I have rented both sides of the house, north and south, with five bedrooms each.

Please let me know if you are interested in this outing. To hold a spot, please send me a deposit of $100 per person. Final payment will be due by August 1, 2016. Depending on the quality of accommodation and just how full we fill the house, costs should be between $200 and $300+ per person for the 8 nights. To incentive carpooling, there will be a $40 charge for each vehicle parked at the house; I will adjust the room rates and the vehicle fee in a revenue-neutral way, reducing room rates accordingly. Half-way stays will be half price, if a match can be found for the other half of the week. Deposits will be refunded only if this can be done without impacting the other participants, whatever the reason for cancellation.
